Small wooden Christmas tree, hand-painted in Maine

How to Style a Small Wooden Christmas Tree on a Mantel or Table

You do not need a big tree to feel the holiday spirit. A small wooden Christmas tree adds a rustic, handcrafted touch to a mantel, a table or a windowsill, and it comes out of the box every year. Here are some simple ways to style one.

Why a wooden Christmas tree?

A wooden tree has a warm, natural look that fits farmhouse, cabin and classic holiday styles. Our Small Wooden Christmas Tree is shaped from Maine pine and birch and painted by hand in our family workshop, so each one is slightly different. It is sturdy enough for daily handling, and its finish is suitable for indoor and outdoor display.

On the mantel

Place the tree off-center and build a small scene around it. A few candles, a pine garland and a wooden Santa at its side will make the mantel feel layered. Odd numbers (one tree and two other pieces) usually look best.

On a table or sideboard

Its compact tabletop size makes the tree a natural centerpiece for a coffee table, a console or the dining table. Set it on a wooden board or a folded linen runner, and add a small bowl of pinecones or ornaments.

On a windowsill or shelf

A windowsill gives the tree natural light and a view from outside. On a bookshelf, group it with a few books and a small wooden figurine, such as our Little Wooden Santa Claus Figurine.

Make it a small holiday scene

  • Tree and Santa: a classic pair for a mantel or table.
  • Tree and ornaments: hang a wooden Santa ornament from a nearby branch or garland.
  • Tree and greenery: tuck sprigs of fresh pine around the base.

If you want a ready-made scene, The Christmas Set brings a wooden Santa and a wooden tree together in one gift-ready bundle.
